Job Description

QA Engineer

Job Description

Overview & Background

We are looking for our first dedicated QA Analyst to help establish and grow the Quality Assurance discipline at Rhythm. As a mid-to-senior level member of the team, you will not only validate new features and re-test resolved bugs, but also own the design of test strategies, advocate for quality across teams, and help define how QA works at Rhythm .

Our platform is built on AWS, is serverless-first, and consists of hundreds of Node.js microservices that run across thousands of AWS Lambda functions. With a loosely coupled architecture and aggressive automated test coverage (unit, integration, and end-to-end), our developers ship changes to production dozens, sometimes hundreds, of times per day.

You will be the human touch in this pipeline — performing functional and exploratory testing, validating tickets against acceptance criteria, and helping the team catch issues automation cannot. As our first QA hire, you will also be instrumental in creating scalable QA processes, mentoring future QA team members, and collaborating with Product Managers, Engineers, and Support to ensure our customers experience delight with every release.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Own QA for assigned features and releases — from planning through validation.
  • Design and execute test plans that cover functional, regression, and exploratory testing.
  • Validate that resolved issues meet acceptance criteria and customer expectations.
  • Write clear, actionable bug reports with detailed steps, evidence, and risk assessment.
  • Partner with Product Managers to refine acceptance criteria and ensure testability.
  • Proactively identify gaps in test coverage and propose improvements.
  • Verify that automated test suites (unit, integration, Cypress) align with functional requirements and highlight gaps.
  • Contribute to defining QA processes and standards that scale as the team grows.
  • Act as the QA voice in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and release readiness discussions.
  • Advocate for the customer experience across all aspects of product delivery.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of professional software QA or testing experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing test plans and validating complex product features.
  • Strong understanding of functional, regression, and exploratory testing practices.
  • Proficiency with issue-tracking systems (Jira preferred) and agile workflows.
  • Familiarity with automated testing concepts (unit, integration, E2E); bonus for experience with Cypress, Playwright, or similar.
  • Excellent communication skills — able to document bugs clearly and collaborate across functions.
  • Comfortable working with cloud-based or SaaS platforms (AWS experience a plus).
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and passionate about improving the customer experience.

Is this job right for you?

For You – The Ideal Candidate – The Answer Is Simple

  • You want to be the first dedicated QA at a growing startup, shaping how we think about quality.
  • You enjoy both hands-on testing and big-picture ownership of release readiness.
  • You’re excited by cloud-native, serverless platforms and want to learn how world-class SaaS products are built.
  • You thrive in collaboration, working closely with Product Managers, Developers, and Support.
  • You want to own the validation process from test planning to customer delivery.
  • You’re motivated by raising the bar — not just validating what’s there, but improving how we test and release.
  • A slow, steady smile has spread across your face as you’ve been reading this.

Who Are We?
